Re: Anyone have databases or user bases for sale?

I have seen website developers request this kind of information for the purpose of fattening up their user base. I assume this is done so as to make their site more attractive to future visitors to sign up.

Is that what this is for?

My sister and brother-in-law have some marketing firm that feeds them sales leads, they get them in .csv file. So, if not what johnqpublic mentioned, then are you looking for sales leads. I sort of assume since you are describing the current batch you have as "old and overused..." that you are looking for leads, not lists.

If you fess up the purpose, maybe I can ask them. Although I should note that they pay $$ for the leads they get. If I remember right, the company harvests users who opt-in passively and actively for the premium lists, and the cheaper lists are drawn from public information. Eh, it's been a long time since I talked to them about this, since I consider passive opt-in as user abuse.

No, I'm not talking about sales leads. I'm talking about people who go about creating a clone of something like adult friend finder (for lack of another example) or some other social networking site and then populate the site with nonexistent or borrowed user base.

I've seen other databases available for sale. Recipes, jokes, whatever.

However, I don't mean to insinuate that John is doing anything unethical or anything.
