 | Anyone still using Everest in OP, KS? Any change in the level of service since they were bought by SureWest Communications in Feb. 2008? Thinking about signing up for their 10 MBit service, hoping they're still the same sold company that the comments would indicate. | | mlemonNeed SleeeeeepPremium join:2002-07-02 Kansas City, MO | I didn't hear anything about the buyout, but my service has be great in Waldo. I have tv, phone and 5.0 without any issues so far. | | drgonzoPremium join:2002-10-28 Shawnee, KS | reply to kakaya zanuda I have had them in Shawnee for quite some time now, and have had minimal issues with them. I recently upgraded to their 10m service and will run random speed tests at random times during the day and on average see between 8.5-9.5m down and always 1m up.
My only real complaint is that they will seldomly have downtime but when they do, its generally been in the evenings on weekends and the answer every single time has been 'you will have to wait until tomorrow to hear back from an engineer'. While that is not in an of itself a huge deal, every time it has been a problem affecting more than myself - if there is a larger wide-spread problem, I would hope they would not wait to work on it until the next day. Its a pretty trivial complaint, but it is what it is.
All in all, I would strongly encourage anyone wanting fast and reliable service to give them a try. -- "Discharge of a nuclear weapon shall be deemed a warlike act, even if accidental." -- My homeowners insurance policy | | | reply to kakaya zanuda I've had Everest (...Now a SureWest Company) now for over 2 years in the Waldo area. As with ANY internet/cable TV, and phone provider their is always growing pains, outages (planned or not) from upgrades, to weather. But I have the middle of the road package internet speeds anywhere from 5-7mb down and always 512k up. Internet service is one of the best I have ever had (better than Charter, SBC, ATT, and Time Warner). The cable TV side of the business is OK, I have noticed since SureWest took over they have been testing out the Edge router type video delivery, so when changing channels especially full digital channels it can take a few seconds and on certain channels their can be some video lag or skips. But all in all the cable tv side is OK and now they do offer a cable box and or DVR with HDMI outputs instead of the DVI crap. The phone service is good old POTS/analog service with on screen caller ID through the TV (which works 98% of the time) is a cool feature only for cable box hooked up TVs. I only mention it being analog, because unless you have good battery backups with VOIP you're SOL when the power goes out and a tree falls on your car in the front of the house [yes that happened!]. The no contract aspect is good too, but can leave you in the breeze when they decide to raise prices (which have risen 20 bucks over the last 2 years). But calling for support/service, is spot on, no BS just get in get the info. or change you want made to a service and BOOM its done. All said if I were to move and Everest/Surewest wasn't in the area, I might think twice, but I like the Waldo area and plan on staying a while. | |
