I'm wondering if anyone has any recent experience with bonding two 56kb analog modem connections over two separate phone lines to get more bandwidth.

| It is called Multi-link and works well to increase speed, however it has no effect on Ping.
Multi-Link requires support at both ends so your ISP must support it, obviously it requires two modems, two phone lines and two dialup accounts.
If you are serious about this may want to check out if ISDN is an option. May cost a little more but it is a much cleaner way to go and being fully digital yields a true 128 kbps connection with fast connect times. Due to the way ISDN works it also handles outgoing and incoming calls better then analog so it worth checking out if you need a land line.

| I appreciate your response. While the local telco (Sprint now Embarq) evidently used to support ISDN, they apparently no longer do so. I suspect that was a marketing decision and not a technical one.
Several years ago, I used to do ISDN setups in northern Virginia and, once you got them configured correctly, they worked very well.
Until last month, I had the Starband satellite service. The slow but steady decline in Starband's performance resulted in it being only marginally better than analog dialup by the time I cancelled it. As a worst case, I figured I would be better off with a slow but consistent dialup service and $70 per month in my pocket than what I had been enduring. I was fortunate in being able to get a savvy Embark sales rep to push through DSL service for me that I had been previously and repeatedly told was not available to me so I am a pretty happy camper.
But the larger question was what kinds of options are available to someone who is still out of range of DSL, cable and the wireless options. Are bonded modems still a viable choice for people?
