Almost every aftermarket has little buttons and are a bit more complicated to use then OEMs. Lets put it this way, I never need to read a manual for OEM radio.

That said, I know there are some real good aftermarkets that are USUALLY far better then OEMs no matter what.

But I'm too picky I guess.
--
"Open the Pod bay door Hal"

drjim : Since yours is a 2004, it's a "WJ" model. The WJ Jeeps website shows a single CD AM/FM radio as either an RBK or RBQ.
The "Navigation" radios would be an RB1.
If you want to display the artist/title, it requires an "upgrade" cable to be run from the Sirius unit to the head unit. You might be able to work something out with the dealer to upgrade the head unit and add the wire harness, but it won't be cheap. One of the reasons I went with an OEM radio was that I knew it would just plug-in, and everything would work. I bought mine from a seller on eBay who the WK Jeeps site recommended, and paid about HALF what the dealer wanted.
Personally, if I was going to do it again in mine, I'd get an aftermarket Nav Radio from Pioneer, like the AVEC that my son installed in his Xterra. It has a much better user interface, and there are modules available to allow you to keep the steering wheel controls.
--
One man's Magic is another man's Engineering.

(In fact, all I get from Sirius is a channel number, no song tiles, ect.)
It was Satellite ready, and/or CD changer ready.

I wonder *IF* Jeep decides to go ahead and replace it under warranty, if I can pay the difference to get a better one that will display more?
--
"Open the Pod bay door Hal"

Dominokat : Well, it went back to the Jeep service yesterday. They put a new Sirius receiver in, and it didn't fix the problem. They traced all the wiring, and found no issues. Now they say it is the radio (in the dash) itself that is screwed up.
The service people are going to call and see if it can get replaced by warranty.
I wanted to keep everything OEM, but now I am afraid that Jeeps OEM radios suck.
--
"Open the Pod bay door Hal"

drjim : The only 'issue' I have with the OEM unit in my 2006 GC is that if anything blocks the antenna, the signal drops out. Pull in to get gas, 99% guaranteed you'll lose the signal. Even large trees block it out, which can get pretty annoying at times, but is to be expected at 2.3GHz.
I'm not sure who built the Sirius receiver in my Jeep, but the replacement OEM Nav unit I bought was made by Alpine. I just unplugged the OEM 6-disk CD player/radio, and plugged the new head unit in. I had to replace the bezel, and pop off the bezel over the instrument cluster to mount the GPS antenna, but the whole job took about 30 minutes. In retrospect, if I had to do it over, I'd buy a Pioneer AVEC unit like my son installed in his Xterra. Really sweet, and the touch screen interface is light years ahead of the scroll-knob used on the Jeep OEM unit.
--
One man's Magic is another man's Engineering.

Dominokat : New radio being installed tomorrow.
It better be better then the POS in my car now.
Horrible reception, (I swear it looses signal if a mosquito passes by) and should the inside get hot, I loose it all together to just static, until it cools down.
Since this is very difficult to re-create, Jeep wasn't able to determine there is a problem.
So I bought a replacement on my own.
I hope it works better. Otherwise, I will have to say, STAY AWAY, from Jeeps OEM.
--
"Open the Pod bay door Hal"

Dominokat : The new unit came in yesterday. I opened the box, it looked pretty simple to do. Since there is already a unit in the Jeep, I should be able to just unplug it, and put the new one in.
But when I went to look at the Jeep, and the work needed to get to the box, it didn't look so simple any more. I have to remove most of the trim and panels to get to the box in the rear.
I'm not confident I can tackle that one. :(
