Re: Silent PC Configuration

Thanks for all the help guys...
My wishlist is no longer a wishlist... it is now my orderlist and i'll be waiting for it... Newegg does a killer job of shipping things out same day... i never cease to be amazed at their QoS.

Will report back once I have my things and ready assembled

Think about the E8400 instead of E8500. The rated speed is barely different and the E8400 overclocks very easily and at low power. The HSF that comes in the box isn't all that bad, and unless you intend to drive the daylights out of it, will be probably be adequate for the job. This can save you $100.

If you are going for a 9600GT, I'd consider the passive 9600GT. If not, you can always upgrade the cooler *if* it is too noisy for you later.
Look carefully mate. It is passive

Yes I have and I have come up with the following.

Here is my WishList at NewEgg which pretty much sums up what I want to order.
»secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/wis···=7288312

I hope all this adds up to a silent PC after all...

  Hi all,

I'm trying to assemble a silent PC for my next rig and I'm trying to sort out all the components which would drastically reduce the amount of noise I would have to bare.
I've picked out the core components and would like help in selecting the remaining components to eliminate as much noise as possible:

So far I'm down for:
Intel E8500 Retail
EVGA 132-CK-NF79-A1
OCZ Reaper HPC 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333
CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX
EVGA 320-P2-N811-AR (not sure how noisy this is)
COOLER MASTER Mystique RC-632S-KKN1-GP Black

I wanted opinions from my fellow DSLR techies on making my PC as silent as possible. If you think there is a better video card/PSU out there that provides about the same performance/power with the same cost and is much silent than what I've posted here, by all means please recommend.
So I'm basically asking for help with the following:
GPU (to reduce the audible noise but with similar characteristics of the 8800GTS)
PSU (to reduce noise with about 650W peak power)
Hard Drives (about 320~500GB range)
DVD Burner (this one is quite important because we all know how noisy these can be)

I havent quite decided on what to cool my CPU with but thats something I can really work on... I would really appreciate it if I can get help with the stuff I've listed out here...

regards,
Chirag
