The issue of Rogers inserting HTML packets into subscriber's browser, altering webpages to alert their subscriber's when they've reach 75% of their bandwidth usage is an issue that needs to be brought before the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

(Information obtain from Rogers website »https://your.rogers.com/privacy1.asp - Item #13) Piracy is just one of the issues, security is another their modification of the HTML code without consent of the company providing the website service (like google) is illegal, but the fact they are able to jump past people's firewalls like Cisco ASA & Pix, Check Point, ISA Server, and what have you is a huge cause for concern.

that doesn't change the fact that doing so is wrong, and starts us on a slipper slope. Who is to say it wouldn't be in there best interest to change the prices on Bells or teksavvy's sites? It would still just be intercepting the information and altering it. |

| reply to GKC I found yesterday that their "Live Chat" that they offer to provide support when you are using their SHS (Self Help Software) actually enables remote Assistance on your PC, without your knowledge (apparently it is burried somewhere in the license agreement that pops up, but I couldn't find it) - this allows them a full view of your desktop activity, the ability to take screenshots, read ANY file on your system, run registry scans etc. There is a un-advertised setting to make them prompt you for all this, but by default, they have un-prompted access....any thoughts on this one? According to the Rogers Tech, unless they actually take full control of my PC, it does not count as an invasion of privacy!! |

| reply to GKC I allowed them to use their remote PC functions when I was on a live chat a few weeks ago, they ran a speed test and then closed the connection. The remote-function is an activex applet I believe and I know for a fact that I had to click "allow" for them to access my pc. |

| i've used that too, by default it allows them access, and you have to actually set it to advanced in order to figure out what they are doing. but 9/10 times I find that online help service to be utterly useless since anybody who has real connection problems aren't going to be able to go online to use it anyways, and they don't use anybody higher than level I technicians for it.
incidentally I do not like this banner ad either, but I am planning on leaving rogers anyways so I just block it via router and firefox's adblock plugin |
