FASSSSST HIGH-SPEED INTERNET: 56K FOR $25! On that point, it's true for the most part. However, Bend Internet is instituting a 10 GB consumption cap for their budget tier.
With a 56K modem (53K datarate), I could transfer 17 GB of data in a month. If I choose Bend Internet's similarly-priced package, then I actually get substantially less if my intent is to use a lot of bandwidth (e.g. P2P file sharing).
Now most users will still actually benefit from the move from dialup to Economy broadband -- they do want to see web pages and images load faster.
But a 10 GB limit on ANY broadband would make me (a consumer) EXTREMELY nervous. Nervousness about cost overruns is the very reason that metered Internet pretty-much died in the 90s.
