 Questions about Suddenlink internet...

I'm supposed to be getting the $99 deal on May. 16 that comes with the cable tv, phone, and internet service. I had a few questions about the internet service. Is the IP address static or dynamic, are there any limits on how much we can download? I have been using Rapidshare often right now with DSL and am able to reset the modem to get a new IP, so I was wondering if I would still be able to do the same with Suddenlink. How fast is the download speed in this package? I was told it was supposed to be 6-7 times faster than my DSL (actually fastest speed I get is 150KB/s) so that should be like 1MB/s, is that right?

And last thing, why does is it going to take 15 days for them to come over here and setup the stuff? If its just about the modem, I have actually installed it before back when they were Cox, should I call them to give me the modem for me to install it?

Residential services have a dynamic IP address.

You mention resetting your DSL modem to get a new IP, and I'm curious as to why you'd need to do this.

As far as the 15-day wait to be installed, you stated you're getting phone service, and I know it takes a certain number of days to get a phone number up and going that has nothing to do with Suddenlink, but I'm not sure on the exact number of days. It also depends on whether you're porting a number (keeping your old number) or getting a native number (getting a new number).

Regarding the internet speed you'll be getting, you would need to ask a rep what the actual name of the data tier is that you'll be getting, and they should be able to tell you the speed of that specific tier. In Tyler, the download speed tiers are are 1 Mbps (Value), 8 Mbps (Preferred), and 10 Mbps (Premier).

I don't think resetting your modem will continue to work on cable. I have to leave mine off for long long periods to get dropped from the DHCP table. I haven't had the need to do this but I'd say even several hours won't guarantee you a new IP. I've had periods of greater than 6 months with the same IP on Suddenstink / Charter.

The only reason I would reset the modem sometimes is when getting banned from a game or to bypassing the 90 minute wait on Rapidshare.com after downloading a file.

1Mbps...That should be faster than this, right?

...So that is slower than mine?! Um...How much would/should it cost me to upgrade to the 8Mbps and have the phone and cable like it is? That should be the $115 deal I guess so its still like $15/month less than what we are currently paying.

Hey, about my test result for the AT&T I have right now...like I said in my first post above, I have NEVER seen any speeds higher than around 150KB/s downloads from torrents, Rapidshare, or actually ANYWHERE. It seems like it is limited or something. So I was wondering, what is the fastest you guys (maybe around the Tyler, TX area) download stuff?

You are hitting the limitations of your connection. 150 kb/s a second is your 1200 kbps.

i have the 8 meg suddenlink internet here and I generally see around 400 kb/sec depending on the site i'm going to. However sometimes on very fast sites i've seen 800 kb/sec to 1 meg/sec.

Good luck with Rapidshare.com. Suddenlink recently neutered it and could care less.

edit:
May 16th, @04:18PM

Well, someone was sent to get it installed today. After having to mess with the settings to get it working I had previously for the old DSL I was able to connect to the internet. I had to mostly change things to default and on my router set it to automatic configuration. So it's working now and I am getting this speed

How easy would it be to upgrade to the $114.99 deal? Like could I just come on here and have it changed to that the same day?

Edit: First download on Suddenlink right now at 115-135KB/s off of RapidShare! So I guess I am not having those problems others on Suddenlink have right now or yet. :P

Where can I get help unmerging accounts from AT&T Yahoo?
