I need the updated best speed available in my area - 60609

Hello,

It's been a while since I've posed. I've had AT&T DSL at my location since December 2003. I've worked with Beach Boy in the past to help get the best connection possible, we've conducted many tests, line monitoring, everything. So, I'm not really a stranger.

My question is this, now that we are in 2008, how can I find out what the best speed is available to me, as I am one of those poor souls stuck on 768/384, due to my distance from the CO. How do I find out if my situation has changed? I live in Chicago, 60609.

Any direction would be appreciated.

My goal is to get a DSL speed that I can't rely on for my home network (predominately my home office), while enjoying the net in the evening for media. To date, my DSL is used only as a backup connection, if and when my Comcast connection is down.

Thanks,

The best way to find out is to post in the AT&T Direct forum. They can find out how far you are and if there is a remote terminal near you. Read the rules before posting.

Thanks for the response. I'm not sure if you've read my entire post. I've gone the "Direct" route in the past and I was really hoping that a mod would tell me if it was sensible to go that router again, or maybe they would already know if a RT was in the area, etc.

I'm not actually new to this board. My last request in Direct was to wait for an RT.

Thanks,

None of us can tell you if an RT has gone up or is live in your area only the direct folks can. Try posting back in the Direct forum and see what they can find out.

Depending on where you are in the city waiting for an RT could take a bit. I don't know of many RT's in the city.

Have you used the "Check availability" tool on the AT&T site?

Yep, and I do have the service. So, it doesn't really do much for me, I will post in direct.

Thanks,

Duck, I'm working with Dave, thanks.

I'm still not sure what to make of your tone, as I understand that you have to direct a lot of traffic here, but people talking down to others on forums is getting tired. I would have thought that you would appreciate me asking for feedback prior to posting in Direct. I don't need to realize anything, I know the process, I was just trying to conserve cycles. Speak with Dave, he has been on this path with me for 5 years. My story is an anomaly and I think I have been a splendid customer despite the issues. Ameritech, SBC and AT&T have a wonderful review from me, as do the tech who chip in here at DSLR. I'm no newb, I've been here longer then you friend. If I've misread your responses forgive me, but it seemed like you were more intent to make a point then trying lend a helping hand.

Basically I pay AT&T a monthly fee for the least amount of usage, for 99% of all subscribers. I hold out a hope that my service will one day return to it's former usefulness. In the meantime I've given AT&T over $1000.00 based on past performance. I don't suck as bad as you think.

Sorry you feel that way. I have deleted that post and will refrain from posting further.

Best bet is to post in the ATT Direct Forum with your DSL number and address. That way an ATT tech can give you the correct answer. Better then calling ATT.
