[BT] Noob sharing question

I want to share a file on BT, but I'm slightly confused about trackers. I'd like to use an external tracker instead of the one built into Azureus. What would be a good free tracker to use? Is Mininova just a directory of torrents and not a tracker, so I couldn't use that? So I could register for and use TPB as a tracker? Any other suggestions/tips to get me pointed in the right direction?

Want to share with lots or just a few people?
if just a few, a FTP server would suffice.

I ended up registering at TPB and uploaded the torrent. It seems to be working.
