| Chicago to Tampa Bus service. Options?
Hello! I am trying to get a bus from chicago to tampa fl. I am trying to avoid greyhound but i think i might be stuck with them. This is for 2 people. Are there other bus lines that go to florida? I just assume there has to be others from the chicago area that make it to florida. I posted here for local opinions on other companies. I would rather fly but my friend is afraid of flying. He might have no choice but to fly though! I am looking for the cheapest way to get to florida round trip.

| The only other bus service I know is Trailways. But they seem to service now only the Midwest. »www.trailways.com/schedules.asp So I assume you make a trip to as far south the Midwest region serves, then continue on a separate leg to the southeast. |

| Yeah, i considered amtrak. I have to go to washington d.c. and then down to orlando then take a bus to tampa. Much longer than greyhound but i would think is slightly safer. -- When you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all. |

| I can't vouch for the specific times involved, but I know the bus can take forever even if it looks like it's a direct route.
The reason being it has to get off the interstate for each of it's stops, drive into the small town and then back to the interstate until the next stop. |

| reply to djdanska Took a Greyhound to Wash DC to buy a car last month. Had a five-hour delay with a breakdown in Toledo, then an unplanned four-hour layover at the Pittsburgh station after missing a connection by about 10 minutes. Hit DC at noon, 6 hours behind schedule. A brutal 28 hours, but cheap at $59 when you have more time than money. |

1 edit | reply to djdanska That is insane. In most cases Grey Hound and Amtrak is just as expensive as the cheap flights.
Go to this site and look for your destination. If you don't find it, look for the nearest airport and rent a car. You'll have to rent a car when you get to your destination anyways.

| reply to djdanska Well, i did a flight search. Lowest was $237 after tax. I was able to use priceline.com and was able to lower it to $203 so i chose to just fly alone. Flight is booked. Thanks all for your help. I am visiting family and will look into moving down there. See if i like it. I used to live down there, so i know it a little. -- When you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all. |
