It'll be the same for both providers, so nothing will change, sorry.

If you would like, I can move your post over to our Earthlink DSL Forum so you can see what they have to say. Let me know.

Also, what is your distance?

VZ ultimately provisions the DSL connection that Earthlink (or Covad or any other reseller) eventually resells to you. So an end-around to Earthlink won't get you a higher provisioned DSL line.

If you're getting 2.2 down already, you're not going to get much more at a 3.0-provisioned line because of the usual overhead. A VZ-provisioned 3.0 DSL line would probably deliver somewhere in the neighborhood of 2.6-ish (down) for someone within acceptable range of the CO.

For example, I am provisioned at 3.3 down, live slightly less than a mile from the CO, and regularly get about 2.9 down.

But the one thing is, why is it that Verizon users when they get 3.0Mbps can only get the speed based on distance (like if their line can support 3Mbps sync without a problem, but can only handle 2.2-2.8Mbps with the overhead) when another local telco here, Frontier, syncs at the same speed, but yet a family relative's connection who has slightly more wirelength than the Verizon service in my neighborhood and of course, older copper (the copper in my neighborhood is 6 years old vs. the Frontier line which is 20+ years old) can smack speeds 100+kbps over 3Mbps every time at the same line speed with Frontier? Can someone explain this to me at all? Both connections have the same line stats, authentication type, etc.

most likely, they're using DHCP, which unlike Verizon's PPPoE protocol, does not eat up 20% of the line bandwidth on overhead.
PPPoE is the reason Verizon users see sync speeds of 3360, which Verizon does to make up for the 20% overhead.

Frontier is using PPPoE and PPPoA on older installs (when they first put DSL in the area for Frontier terretory almost two years ago). No DHCP, what so ever.
