 | ?? Question about AP repeater and AP WDS Hi, I would like to understand better which is the difference between an Access Point operating as Bridge/Repeater and an AP operating as AP+Bridge (It's possible to find these two examples in Zyxel NWA-3100 Access Point manual file ) ....... It's not really clear for me if : - Is an AP in Repeater configuration working at level 1 of ISO/OSI model ? - Is an AP in Bridge Configuration working at level 2 of ISO/OSI model ? - Is the Zyxel AP in Bridge/Repeater configuration working at level 1 or at level 2 of ISO/OSI model ? - Is an AP configured as repeater to receive and retransmit to the wireless clients the signals coming from an AP that is in AP configuration and that is Supporting WDS technology? And.........Is an AP configured as repeater to receive and retransmit to the wireless clients the signals coming from an AP that is in AP configuration and that is NOT Supporting WDS technology? - Is the Zyxel AP in Bridge/Repeater configuration mode able to receive and retransmit to wireless clients the signal coming from an AP that is AP or hotspot and that is not supporrting the WDS technology?
Thanks a lot for your attention. |

 | If it is an AP then it is what is says: an Access Point. Which means you can wireless connect with a WiFi STAtion to it.
If if it is Bridge/Repeater it only bridges the wifi signal, and you can NOT connect with a WiFi STAtion to it. Repeater just means it has no ethernet cable attached to it: it repeats the wifi signal between e.g. two other 3100's.
Keep in mind they all need to be at the same channel/band. And there is no standard and it is chipset dependable. So e.g.. a G-570U will NOT bridge with a NWA-3100.

Bridge: »www.wi-fiplanet.com/tutorials/ar···/3639271
Repeater: »www.wi-fiplanet.com/tutorials/ar···/3655041
The hardware is different, but the examples would be the same.
