Hey I just discovered something, potentially a security risk I suppose, I'm not into the hax0ring thing though...
If I type in »
192.168.100.1 into my browser, I of course get my cable modem's internal website. My modem happens to be a Sci-Atl webstar voip modem; on the 'status' page there's a public IP listed, and it's not my RR IP, it's one used for diagnostic from outside the RR "WAN". The IP is »
10.48.xxx.xxx (I've blocked out those octets to avoid attracting bad attention).
Anyway if you have a webstar, go to your website and click on Status, then copy that IP into your browser's address bar. Now start playing with the last octet... on neo.rr.com, I discovered that almost 90% of that octet is visible (it's just modem pages but still); I haven't changed the next-to-last octet any but I assume it's the same. The most interesting part is that it's all Sci-Atl modems so far, but some of these have settings one can mess with, potentially kicking a subscriber offline. I hope RR fixes this issue soon.
