Telus discontinues newsgroups

According to Telus they have discontinued the newsgroup feeds as of May 1st 08. I have been using active-news.com for newsgroup feeds (they are cheep but have awful customer service) and always got good throughput speeds in the range of 260k but since May 1st. I can get only about 90k. I wonder if Telus is throttling back the NNTP protocol. Is anyone else experiencing speed issues with NNTP over Telus?

As far as I know they've only discontinued binaries.. and there's plenty of information/complaining in this thread already.

If you go to the binaries groups, they all have one message each, which sends you to newhostings website and you can subscribe at a discounted rate.. which sucks for me because back in the fall I bought a year in advance, so I can get coded under the telus rate.
