| Just went from 1.5 to 3.0 Enhanced
Just got some new service at my new place and upgraded from regular high speed to the enhanced one.
I also got them to ship me a Thompson Speedtouch Modem to replace my old (but still working like a horse) 3com home connect.
I ran a speed test before I switched modems and after and the numbers are the same.
2618 kbps Download 797 kbps Upload.
Now are these speeds normal for the enhanced high speed? Also I read a lot about people trying to flash new firmware on the TS but nothing in the manual says anything about me being able to remotely administer it.
I did a quick look but did not find a guide, can someone point me to the right direction? |

| It's good that you were able to achieve those speeds with the old 3com - that means you've got a good line (the modern modems sync better, especially on upstream). If they sync the same either should perform equivalently, but if you want to flash the speedtouch to an unlocked firmware (which does allow remote administration) then I have a guide and flashing pack to do so, if you're interested. PM me if you want the pack and I'll send it to you. |

Actually, it's hard to tell at this point because some areas are already under the new system, which supposedly works much better than the old one.
The true testament lies with your actual attainable download rate to the central office under the new system. Theoretically it should be 24 Mbps, but on average it should be around 12-15 Mbps, which is not that great if you think about it.
I do not think you need to flash your modem unless you really have to.
This is my current speed after convincing TELUS that a fraction of their equipment is malfunctioning:
