| Very, very, VERY SLOW download speeds
Usually I don't get download speeds any faster than 150 KB/Sec and it usually drops to around 50 KB/Sec. Most of my downloads consist of music (albums, no more than 10-12 songs per album). I went to a friend's house who just so happens to have the same computer as me (Sony Vaio CR Notebook - VGN-CR120E) and her download speed for an album was 450 KB/Sec. I tried downloading the same thing while at her house and once again was faced with slow speeds, only getting 58 KB/Sec.
So, obviously, I am wondering what the problem is. Since I not only had this problem at home with my internet/wireless as well as her house with her internet/wireless, does that mean it's an issue with my laptop itself? Also, we both have the same D-Link router.
Any help would be appreciated! |

@shawcable.net | reply to BC1986 Teryaon, and my friend has Motorola. I don't think it is a model problem because, as stated, even at my friend's house my speeds still suck, |

| Googler: I think, though, that the point he is trying to make is that he is getting slow speeds on his laptop even when connecting to his friends network.
So while it is probably replacing that Terayon modem anyway, the modem doesn't seem to be his immediate problem.
jbcalg: If you copy a file within the LAN (say from your friend's machine directly to yours), what kind of speeds do you get there? |

@shawcable.net | Shaw's been incredibly slow in the Richmond area for the past few days too... Could it be that they've broken something or are experiencing some sort of network issue? :S |

8-9mb across my home LAN if it matters |

My post was directed toward the OP. Why I put your name there is anybody's guess. Sorry about that. |

| reply to BC1986 Has anyone found a good setting to set the rwin to for the new power boost feature?
I have one system at approx 65,000
Second system at over 100,000 seems both have there advantages and negatives.
Shaw's service seems to swing in bandwidth from a low of 2-4 mbit
Up to a power boost in the late night ranging from 15k - 28k mbits
I use the extreme service.
The tweak results suggestions for rwin based on expected bandwidth vary a great deal if you input these different speeds. |
