Re: Let's keep all DOCSIS 3.0 Discussion in this thread, please

I am in Massachusetts and I can confirm that the new speeds showed up last night. My modem's provisioned rate went from 8800/2200 to 17600/2000 after a restart this morning and a quick check of the ordering page shows that the new DOCSIS 3.0 speed tiers are available for ordering now.

dSloth

@comcast.net

...and the new DOCSIS 3.0 tiers can, in fact, be ordered over the phone. Quickly, easily, no hassle.

Are you guys sure its Docsis 3.0 you're getting? Comcast just upgraded the area out where I am located recently and here's the modulation print out:

Upstream Channel = 5
Change Count = 19
MiniSlot Size = 64 symbols
MiniSlot Size = 2 ticks
Downstream Id =
Symbol Rate = 5120000 sym/sec
Upstream Frequency =
Upstream Channel Type = Type 3 (DOCSIS 2.0)
Using DOCSIS 2.0 Profiles = 1
Install Mode = Full Install

Looks to me like its not REAL docsis 3.0. In actuality it is Docsis2.0. Remember if its docsis 3.0, you guys will need Docsis3.0 hardware which at this point means you will need a special modem. None of the DCM/SB models they are leasing are d3 compatible. If you were getting D3 you would need like a DPC3000 or Surfboard SB610X's.

dSloth

@eline-wireless.com

I still have a DOCSIS 2.0 modem. When I ordered the 22/5 tier, they noted that I would need a new modem and they will be shipping one to me.

Tier Options in MetroWest, MA

Excellent. Same here in MetroWest MA, both on the modem and on the ordering site.

Options are:
Performance (12, boost to 15)- $42.95
Blast (16, boost to 20)- $52.95
Ultra (22, boost to 30)- $62.95 + $3 modem
Extreme 50 (50)- $139.95 + $3 modem

I think their Powerboost numbers are probably underestimated, though. The fine print doesn't include upload numbers, so I'm assuming the info posted here earlier.

Over the weekend I was seeing some very high powerboosts to 30mb/s. As of today as mentioned above I am now seeing 2MB/s sustained downloads after Powerboost finishes (downloaded both Ubuntu and XP SP3.) The beginning of the download is just shy of 4MB/s.

Actually, to get the 22/5 and 50/10 packages Comcast is requiring a D3 modem, even though for the 22/5 a D2 could do it. The 16/2 package sees no upgrade to the 22/5 as its a different package. If you had 6/1, you get bumped to 12/2, if you had 8/2 then you get bumped to 16/2, if you had 16/2 then you see nothing and stay at 16/2, but you can upgrade to 22/5 for $13 ($10 service & $3 rental fee) more a month.

You can rent one from Comcast, you can't buy them yet.

No, they give you one when you upgrade to that speed tier after its been rolled out in your area, until then you'll have to stick with your current modem.
