said by CrysDark :Comcast chat is telling me it's available in The No (Fresno). I'm working out how to get a modem now... Ugh I am going to try again in the morning to get an english rep. They say we have it, and it is available. But she is telling me it's $20 more a month for the Ultra tier over my Blast! tier, which isn't making any sense. The e-mail I got a few months ago said the upgrade was free?!?1 I got the same offer $20 more for ultra but i wanted Extreme. So now I pay $117 per month with Extreme only. The tech had to come and deliver a Ambit 3.0 modem. Its fast. »results.speedtest.comcast.net/re···1012.png |

Yeah I just got the email as well for Clovis, CA (Fresno) and the new options on the website are only 20/4 and 30/7 with powerboost...?! Why aren't we getting 22/5 and 50/10?
*update*
The rep on the phone is telling me they have to do a truck roll to get the new DOCSIS 3 modem (he waived the charge) and it would cost me $20/month more to upgrade to 22/5 from my BLAST! tier. He is telling me that Fresno/Clovis does in fact have 22/5 and 50/10.
I find it kind of crappy that all the lower tier's get a "free" upgrade in speed yet the Blast tier stays the same...blast should be an auto bump to 22/5.
I'm going to call the local Comcast office and see what they say. |

| Not that I'm begrudging you getting an upgrade to Ultra, but the other way of thinking about it would be is that you got your upgrade earlier than everyone else when you went from 8/2 to 16/2...
Marketing Translation:
20/4 is 16/2 30/7 is 22/5 |

Correct except I pay more than the lower tier customers... It's not like I was getting Blast for free. 6/1 and 8/2 customers get upgraded with no cost increase.
Oh and thanks for the powerboost translation. I was wondering what the powerboost speeds are...
For some reason 3 different techs' aren't able to schedule truck rolls... the "system" is telling them my market only has 50/10 and no 22/5. Sigh.
This is the hardest I've had to try to get a company to take more money from me...
*update* Well no one at Comcast was able to schedule a truck to come out due to an "error in the system" and I was told to call back tomorrow...
Has anyone in the Fresno/Clovis area gotten a D3 modem yet?! If so how?
*update 2* Contacted comcast by "live chat" and that rep was able to schedule a truck roll for this weekend. $20/month increase over my current Blast! tier plus $5/month modem lease fee though I was able to get that waived in addition to the $24.95 install fee. |

said by brianstretch :FWIW, I saw SB6120 modems in the Ann Arbor Best Buy store today. DOCSIS 3 is coming soon to Michigan? I saw them in the Allen Park, MI store yesterday as well. Asked the guy and of course he was clueless (well he should've been I guess...he doesn't work for Comcast.) |

1 edit | reply to sortofageek I don't think it's worth 80 dollars a month for 22/5. 16/2 is just fine for me. All it's going to do is make me take about half as long to reach the monthly cap.
I'll pass until (hopefully) the prices come down. U-verse is cheaper and expanding in our area so we should get some of those competitive market rates soon |

In Merced here... got the email yesterday saying that the higher speeds are available. I ordered mine online (30/7)...but wasn't aware of the 50/10 until I read this here. I'll call them today and find out if I can get the 50/10. I got my install scheduled for Friday morning. |

| said by mark925 : I ordered mine online (30/7)... W.I.W., there is no 30/7 tier. Sounds like it is really the 22/5 sustained Ultra tier with Powerboost bursts to 30/7. Marketing ya know
B.T.W., the Extreme tier is 50/10 sustained and does not have the Powerboost feature. |

2 edits | reply to mark925 Just got off the phone with Comcast and 50/10 is available here in Merced. The rep told me that they have a "50/10 Extreme" which is $139/mo and "Extreme" which is $117/mo. I went ahead and just changed my order to the Extreme from 30/7.
To make the change they had to redo my order for some reason and said they'd have to get me a new date. The woman on the phone had to try and get ahold of a supervisor to give me a date since the system didn't give her one, so she's going to call me tomorrow about the date and hopefully I can keep the 6th. |

Well, real life results show that there are varying levels of powerboost on the extreme tier. I'd rather rely on actual observation than some theoretical/philosophical assertion.
Maybe Comcast decided that I'm particularly special and decided to make an exception just for me.
Here's the thread showing my netmeter graphs. It still happens to this day. »Re: Let's keep all DOCSIS 3.0 Discussion in this thread, please
If not powerboost, then what is it? |
