| Wireless Router problems-connection needs to be repair often
ISP: Cantv.net - setting are supposed to be automatic/dynamic, Plug and play.
My equipment: Router: tp-link tl-wr641g Card: tp-link tl-wn550g/551g
This problem appeared some days ago. When I get a connection from my wireless router, using wireless connection or wired, doesn't matter, my connection Hangs from time to time.
To get past this "hang" I have to Repair the connection and it gets ok again, but after a couple minutes it hangs, and I have to repair.
I tried connecting my computer directly to the modem with a wire, and the problem didn't occur, but using the router, with my wireless card or with my wired port, always cause this hang.
I noticed I can still receive content while the hang occurs. Playing team fortress 2 when the hang happens, I can still hear players voice chat, but can't move or see any movement because everything gets frozen/lagged, can't game effects either.
If I don't repair the connection, it goes back to normal after some minutes (2-3 minutes). And will hang again after some time.
What I've done:
tried changing mode from 54mbps(802,11g) to 108mbps (dynamic). Nothing.
static routing. Nothing.
power saving turned off. Nothing.
made sure to open required ports in port forwarding. Nothing.
setting max lease time for dhcp assigned IPs. Nothing. |

| Replace the wireless router as you just answered your own question. If the wired is doing the same as the wireless then:
1. not your wireless card 2. it's your wireless router acting up. 3 did you update any firmware for the router?
If yes and it's doing the same thing then replace the router If no then keep the router and re-flash the firmware. If it still doing it again replace the router. |

| I did a firmware update, and the problem persisted.
But today I might have found the source of my problem. Connected directly to modem the problem still happen. So, it could be my modem or my ISP.
How do I find out if it's my modem?
Edit: I registered to the site today, and chose a different name for the account, but I'm the OP. |

| Contact the ISP if you're renting the modem from them? They could try to connect to the modem and see if it's work correctly. They could replace the modem by sending a tech to your place or you could go and buy another modem but you'll need to call them up and give them the mac address of that modem or else you'll never connect to the internet. |
