I believe something like 48 more SD channels and 26 HD channels towards the end of July. I have heard Mid-June, Late August, late July......I honestly think it's all speculation. If it ain't here by September I'll look at other options. I'd love to have more HD, but any "timelines" for HD are purely speculation. Nobody really knows. Just like HD VOD, we'll wake up one morning and it will be there. |

Speculation...nobody really knows. Anyone that posts time frames are really just taking a guess....take it with a grain of salt. The only post I have seen that has "some merit" was from a Verizon employee that said some time in mid June for the markets that are all digital at this time.....But, I'm not holding my breath. |

IIRC the original press release from Verizon (claiming added channels by "Spring 2008") said it would be added on a per market basis - indicating a staged roll out by VHO. -- REMEMBER: Stupidity should be painful !! |

Where are they going to squeeze them? Is there going to be renumbering? |

| reply to FrackHD I think Verizon is going to have to wait until all VHO's are digital and turn on all new channels at the same time. Can you imagine the outcry if a couple VHO's get all this new HD and no one else does? Verizon's customer service lines would be jammed with complaints from customers who haven't yet gotten the new channels. I just can't imagine anything but a national rollout of the new channels all at once. |

join:2008-01-03 Chalfont, PA | reply to FrackHD Oh, and one other thing. Since in my opinion the new HD rollout will have to be national, that means no one will get the new HD until that last of the VHO's have been upgraded, probably sometime in June or July. |

I just can't imagine anything but a national rollout of the new channels all at once. Well, Comcast, Time Warner, and the cable companies roll out new HD channels on a market by market basis. (Heck, there are Comcast franchises that still have no HD channels at all). Why should Verizon be different? Yes, those of us who read dslreports & avsforum are aware that Verizon currently has the same national SD & HD channel line-up (with a few exceptions) in all markets. But most subscribers probably do not and don't care. All they care about is what channels they get.
If Verizon waits until all VHOs are all digital, we will not get any new HD channels until October. The schedule posted months ago has Texas analog shutdown starting on Sept. 22 and so far they appear to be sticking reasonably close to that schedule. But Fios has only 40 analog channels at most. Verizon may be adding QAM channel capacity ahead of the analog shutdown in some markets so they can add some HD channels. We don't know for sure.
If I had a buck for every post here claiming the 1st set of new HD channels would be added in April, May, June, July, August or never, I could use the money to sign up for Comcast for 6 months and get CNN-HD & Sci-Fi HD in over re-compressed HD. |

| reply to FrackHD afiggatt, you make some good points. I'm assuming the rollout would be national simply because Verizon seems to treat FIOS TV as more of a national product than the cable companies do, but I did not realize the last of the analog shutdowns was scheduled for October. It would be painful waiting that long. Here's hoping it happens much sooner.
FMR VZMAN, do you have any information? I realize you're no longer with Verizon but you always seem to be able to clarify things on these boards. |

Some had it a few months before others....So what makes you think that Verizon will change things with the HD roll out?
I think it's going to be "market by market"....the same way they shut off analog. They made a promise to several "news sources" and if they roll out HD in only one market by late spring, then technically they kept their word. |
