I have heard Mid-June, Late August, late July......I honestly think it's all speculation. If it ain't here by September I'll look at other options. I'd love to have more HD, but any "timelines" for HD are purely speculation. Nobody really knows. Just like HD VOD, we'll wake up one morning and it will be there.

Anyone that posts time frames are really just taking a guess....take it with a grain of salt. The only post I have seen that has "some merit" was from a Verizon employee that said some time in mid June for the markets that are all digital at this time.....But, I'm not holding my breath.

| I think Verizon is going to have to wait until all VHO's are digital and turn on all new channels at the same time. Can you imagine the outcry if a couple VHO's get all this new HD and no one else does? Verizon's customer service lines would be jammed with complaints from customers who haven't yet gotten the new channels. I just can't imagine anything but a national rollout of the new channels all at once. | |

Verizon's customer service lines would be jammed with complaints from customers who haven't yet gotten the new channels. I just can't imagine anything but a national rollout of the new channels all at once. Well, Comcast, Time Warner, and the cable companies roll out new HD channels on a market by market basis. (Heck, there are Comcast franchises that still have no HD channels at all). Why should Verizon be different? Yes, those of us who read dslreports & avsforum are aware that Verizon currently has the same national SD & HD channel line-up (with a few exceptions) in all markets. But most subscribers probably do not and don't care. All they care about is what channels they get.
If Verizon waits until all VHOs are all digital, we will not get any new HD channels until October. The schedule posted months ago has Texas analog shutdown starting on Sept. 22 and so far they appear to be sticking reasonably close to that schedule. But Fios has only 40 analog channels at most. Verizon may be adding QAM channel capacity ahead of the analog shutdown in some markets so they can add some HD channels. We don't know for sure.
If I had a buck for every post here claiming the 1st set of new HD channels would be added in April, May, June, July, August or never, I could use the money to sign up for Comcast for 6 months and get CNN-HD & Sci-Fi HD in over re-compressed HD.

join:2008-01-03 Chalfont, PA | Oh, and one other thing. Since in my opinion the new HD rollout will have to be national, that means no one will get the new HD until that last of the VHO's have been upgraded, probably sometime in June or July.

| afiggatt, you make some good points. I'm assuming the rollout would be national simply because Verizon seems to treat FIOS TV as more of a national product than the cable companies do, but I did not realize the last of the analog shutdowns was scheduled for October. It would be painful waiting that long. Here's hoping it happens much sooner.
FMR VZMAN, do you have any information? I realize you're no longer with Verizon but you always seem to be able to clarify things on these boards.

I think it's going to be "market by market"....the same way they shut off analog. They made a promise to several "news sources" and if they roll out HD in only one market by late spring, then technically they kept their word.

| Re: Yet another HD complaint thread It sounds like the real thing. MLB EI and NHL CI share the same 14 channels on In Demand. NBA LP is on different channels. So Savvy got that correct.
I just hope Verizon provides GameHD which is part of the MLB EI/NHL CI package. GameHD is part of the carriage agreement and is free. Comcast has made a bonehead decision not to provide GameHD. Without GameHD the MLB EI/NHL CI package is not very good. Most people who sub to MLB EI/NHL CI have HD and want GameHD. The sports packages are useless without HD channels.

There is no League Pass listed, and I know from having read the contracts that they can't launch the MLB/NHL channels without the NBA channels (10 at least, plus NBATV) - which aren't listed.

| I had to call Verizon about a billing problem (shock!) last Friday. The rep was very nice and we got to chatting about Verizon TV. I asked her what the story was with HD and She told me they are being swamped with calls complaining about more HD channels. She said just Friday, she had 12 calls herself about more HD channels and, as she said, that was even before she had lunch. So, there are calls being made and being logged. Hopefully, they will listen. Personally, I have more faith in Verizon than Comcast as far as listening to people's complaints. | |

| That's a good list of channels. I can't wait. Here are some HD channels we will still be missing after July: Bio. HD, Cartoon Network HD, Disney Channel HD, Toon Disney HD, Nick HD, FX HD, Spike HD, Speed HD, Fox Business Network HD, Fuel TV HD, Tennis Channel HD, VH1 HD, MTV HD, CMT HD, NHL Network HD, NBA TV HD, MGM HD, Big Ten Network HD.
I would have substituted Outdoor Channel HD, Lifetime HD East, and ABC Family HD with FX HD, Spike HD, & Speed HD.

| Question for all the posters to this thread - why the clamor for adding all the HD channels ASAP? Won't a ton of the content on the HD channels to be added still be in SD or stretch 'o vision.
Here is how I see it:
HD Irrelevant: ESPNews, CNN, Weather Channel, CNBC
Filled with Stretch-O-Vision: Animal Planet, TBS, The History Channel, The Learning Channel, USA, Lifetime, Bravo, SCI FI
Extra subscription channels for which a HD channel already exists: Showtime West, Cinemax West, HBO West
Sports: Big Ten Network, Versus / Golf
Channels I know nothing about: MOJO, The Science Channel, Starz Edge, Starz Comed, Starz Kids and Family, Outdoor Channel, Smithsonian
Perhaps some of my classifications are wrong, but beyond Versus / Golf, baseball playoffs on TBS and very little original programming on Sci Fi (like BSG - that I don't watch) and other channels, I don't get why people are so amped about adding HD channels NOW.

| Re: Yet another HD complaint thread It is pointless to say that most channels will not have 24/7 HD content, because no one ever watches one channel all the time.
The point is that if the flagship shows you watch are in HD, then that 1 or 2 hours per week that you actually watch that channel is all that matters.

| Re: Yet another HD complaint thread Like many others, I love TV, and there are plenty of HD shows I enjoy watching, such as- Cold Case, CSI Miami, NCIS, Criminal Minds, Heroes, CSI NY, Boston Legal, Lost, Shark, CSI, Without A Trace, ER, Ghost Whisperer, Moonlight, Mumb3rs, Jericho, The Unit, L&O, Jay Leno. I'm glad we have a DVR, but I wish I could record (or even watch) Stargate Atlantis and Battlestar Galactica in HD. I also like the Colts and I'm looking forward to the debut of the Lucas Oil Stadium on NBC's Sunday Night Football season premier.
But, I just got through watching a season 3 episode of Hawaii Five-0 on DVD. And now, Burke's Law is on TV. And, later I may watch some classic TV over the internet, from MSN TV, HULU, AOL, CBS, etc. So, being a big TV fan, I'm all for Verizon adding the HD and SD channels we've requested.
Yes, I understand that when some people get an HD set, they very seldom watch anything that's not HD, not even SD-only programs that they previously loved to watch.
That's why I'm glad there's something for everyone who enjoys TV, no matter how they enjoy it. Mark F.
