Anyone here with an ASUS Eee (mini) PC????

Pretty damn bullit proof little machines with one significant problem...

Wireless connection in certain cases.

Most I have found Googling, deals with secure personal router/AP's... where you can work from both ends....

But it for some reason and cases fails even on OPEN wi-fi spots, I have connected to fine on other machines.

This is the no DHCP offers ending in hanging PENDING connection failure.

Makes network contact, but something in the DHCP handshaking is definately SNAFU'd in certain situations and router/AP's.

Sorry, waiting on the 9" screen version. Also depends if eeedora ends up being a fly by night project as well if I get one or not. So even if/when I do get one I won't be any help as I won't be running the bundled Linux.

Well, I've got one and use it occasionally. I use usbmodem to tether it to my treo and have had success with wireless on occasion but wireless is new to me as of owning this machine.

In the 'Wireless Networks...' wizard, the detected transmitters are displayed with a lock icon either locked or unlocked. More times than not, connecting to one of these 'unlocked' devices results in 'No DHCPOFFERS received, Status: Pending..' an active connection but no internet. I just tried this with two 'unlocked' neighbors. One gave me an IP, the other not.

I have inferred that the lock icon reflects whether or not encryption is used and that an unencrypted airport might still require a password, which results in "NO INTERNET FOR YOU!", to me, but that's just a guess.

I have about 20 of them in a corporate environment and one thing I found when I got them was to goto settings and run the add/remove software then do any updates that are available.

I like it but my hands are too big to type on it. I hope they make a slightly bigger version.

As mentioned a 9" version is in the works of release, but of course more expensive and, heavier, and not just stuff it almost anywhere.... and by the way finally dropped mine 3+ feet to concrete running... no damage done again the low mass/weight, and solid state drive, vs fragile HD. (again especially when running)

Yup that is the frustrating thing.... must just be a DHCP bit unique to certain router/APs it just chokes on... hope they figure it out soon... or I will go back to my much more primitive, larger/heavier (one Laptop Per Child) XO.
