When you say "same line filter that the DSL modem is hooked up to" I assume this is the filter with the two jacks on it.
It is possible that there is a poor connection at some wire in the path. The DC current from the phone serves as "sealing current" to restore the connection.
This bad connection is probably inside your house. Since only picking up the phone on the same jack as the modem cures the problem for a while, it seems that the problem would have to be on a section of wire not shared by the other phones involved. Maybe there are few connections in that path and you could just re-do each. While you could test by running a cable directly from modem to NID for a while, it seems unlikely the problem will happen during that test.
I would consider adding a home-run with new wire and a new "splitter" to separate the phone from the DSL-only wire near the NID. |
