anon : Yep, ran a virtual machine, and without SP1 installed, it works fine, but as soon as I install SP1, the printing from IE no longer works, so it is both HP's and Microsoft's faults, but also neither one of their fault's alone. It must be that the programmers at HP were lax on their coding, so that when Microsoft fixed the flaw in some part of the code, the HP driver was broken for IE printing. Until I get some time, and also load my new version of Visual Studio, I will not know which file is the culprit. It does seem that the ball is in HP's lap to correct, but in their defense, it WAS working pre-SP1. I love my HP machines, and I will not use anything BUT HP's on my network. And I love Vista...as it is FINALLY an OS that makes proper sense, and does the things I NEED and WANT it to do. I have been beta testing Windows since the days of 31 floppies for 95. And yes, I am one of the few who enjoyed Windows ME. For those that like XP, but hate ME, create an emergeny start-up disk in XP (if you have a floppy drive), then boot from that. You will see "Starting Windows Millennium Edition..." as XP uses some of ME's coding.

anon : I have been using Vista since the early Beta stages, and I use two HP machines on my network, 7410 and the Photosmart 3210. Only a couple of days ago did I have an issue with printing from IE. I intend to run some tests in a virtual machine to see if it is SP1 for Vista that is causing the issue, as I had not really printed anything since the day SP1 was released. I truly do not think it really is HP's fault, but a breaking of software from the added security features enabled by SP1, since I did a complete removal and reinstall (w/o updating from HP) and still the same result. When I tried to run updates, I got various error messages and failures, which did not happen prior to SP1. Vista was mostly better pre-SP1, but everyone in business would not consider Vista until a service pack, so Microsoft pushed one out. Really, they should have waited 4 or 6 more months, but released some minor update patches, such as the copy command issue.

bcastner : The original workaround was to use a different driver from a related printer series. The easiest short term work around is probably to install the Microsoft driver for the Deskjet 6500 series, it provides the same printing features. Use the "add printer" command, install as a LPT1: device and then after the installation complete the installation by a change of the port to the appropriate USB or network device.

If the Duplex attachment is connected, there was floating around a GDX file patch. This is a text file, in XML format, and the patch simply changed some entries related to the duplexer. Microsoft as you know has nothing to do with these drivers; they are written and certified by HP alone, who does not submit drivers for Microsoft WHQL testing and certification.

By the way -- how is the printer connected?
Jan Janowski : OK.... 3 hour old Dell Laptop with Vista Home Premium. I've configured 2 different Network printers: An old HP LaserJet 4Plus, and an HP OfficeJet 7310. Both are network printers. Both printed out test pages... Both will print from Word 2007, but ONLY ONE -- The HP LaserJet 4 Plus, will print successfully from IE on the Print Icon. Both printers are seen in IE Printer list, and both print in other programs, but only one prints in IE, which is V7.0.6000.16643.

I feel like a betatester....

I've created a 2nd printer selection on the one that won't print in IE, and that works the same way...

Any suggestions?
--
Looking for 1939 Indian Motocycle
