unplug coax from actiontec router?

I'm in an apartment with a VDSL/Coax fios setup. I'm using a TiVo rather than the Fios STB. If this is the case, do I still need the coax running into the Actiontec router? If I can disconnect this I could move the VDSL modem (Zyxel prestige 861) and router into the room my computers are, using the copper hookup there instead of by my TV.

Yes you can take off the action tec in the way you are connected the actiontec is for vod and ipg and internet if you have it. Since you have a tivo you lose both anyway. Now if you have internet you would lose that if you take off the action tech but can be replaced with any router that is capable, you will have to release the IP address from the router and then put on your router and all would be good again provided you don't have any standard boxes on the system.

Cool. I'll probably stick with the actiontec as my router for internet. I just want to disconnect the coax from it (currently its plugged into the VDSL modem via ethernet and is also getting coax from the wall).

Unplugged the actiontec from coax, moved the modem to another room and set up my WRT54G...running fine so far. Just had to have the actiontec dump its IP from the Zyxel. Speed seems the same.
