[OT] Find a decent job

So technically my summer started and I found myself totally unemployed.
So far I found these truths:
•Best jobs are full-time
•Most part time have insane requirements
•internships era is over
I applied to numerous internships and got turned down by all of them.
So I figured I may as well get some certifications this summer to "look good on paper".
I tried many places, like monster, dice and individual companies, any other place I can look at?

Tomek tell me about it. I've been looking for something the last few months and it is almost impossible. I though I actually found something a few weeks ago and the guy changed his story.. I swear everyone is almost full of crap. I guess you can blame the economy... Also it seems these days all "entry level" jobs require experience.. I went into a bakery just to see how much the pay was, and they told me they were only hiring people with experience.. Don't most teenagers work in the bakery for a few years and move on. Who actually would go from bakery to bakery. It just didn't make sense to me.

I actually spoke to rep from BAE and he promised at least a help of getting internship and nothing. Just empty promises, I guess you just need a man or woman on the inside to land the job.

Actually for everyone I know the opposite is true. Plenty of jobs and more people needed than can fill it.

However they need more advanced degrees and certifications and the like. I recommend you go back to school. If you are unemployed, you will likely be able to get it for free. There are state and city agencies which can get you advanced training and back into the workforce.

The problem is the american skill level for education is falling far short of what is required to fill these jobs.

Or you can work for yourself and put together your team when you know how to do something.

I recommend the NYC Workforce Career center as a first step since it is a NYC Agency.

is the Brooklyn location.

One example is the Bank teller training program.

This may be suitable for you.

I am still in school, I am just looking for a part-time job for some cash. I am lucky enough to still be able to live at home. If I wasn't I would be in deep shit right now

I imagine because of our worth less US Dollar, there must be a lot of low pay jobs opening up this summer related to tourism, food, travel, entertainment, and hospitality.

There is also a lot of Philanthropic foundation money being spent around town, so you might want to look into the not for profit organization sector for internships.

Of course anything related to Health care and Geriatric care services are expanding, however it's hard to get anything entry level without some specialized training or certification (mostly due to liability insurance issues) so if you look at the Social Services and Home Care parts of health care, you may find opportunities with low or no requirements.

One of the odd reasons you are seeing fewer internships is the people who used to offer them can't afford to share their work and micro manage newbies while they feel under threat of losing their own jobs.

Plenty of great jobs out there. I know loads of people who I met personally or have great keen awareness of in kind.

All of them have been very successful using highly advanced skillsets, with double degrees from school.

MD, JD, Masters, MBA, Graduate degrees.

The problem areas are the low end workers with very little skillsets and intellectual knowledge. For instance: Administrative assistants who make very little and have to carpool because of rising gas prices and can not afford to pay for gas. Its the workers on the bottom levels who get hurt and are unable to find work.

Every day I hear about a new success story. Just yesterday I was eating out at a local restaurant and overheard a person talk about his new job with a very prestigeous law firm and how he just bought a place with his wife.

Or I hear from someone at a huge growing organization or company who has so much work they can hardly get enough employees to fill the jobs.

I have heard this from multiple people. So yes there are plenty of jobs in the real world. But one should do what you love and what you enjoy, never let anyone else control your own destiny.

You still need to be able to be qualified to do the job.

Firms range from Computer/IT to Law firms which handle real estate foreclosures.

Its not just isolated to one individual firm.

Those who really want jobs and who really work to get them will get them.

Every second firms and people need employees to do the work that they can not fill.

Man is that true... I just got hooked up with a job that pays good for easy IT work, without an interview!

If you are just looking for a part time job, try retail. Any Lowe's or Home Depot's in your area? They are willing to hire students and work around their school schedules. It's a paycheck if that's all you're looking for.

I'm looking for a paycheck too, actually, I'd prefer direct deposit. Think you can hook me up? I'd also prefer to not have to do any actual work.
