Why is my DSL so slow?

Well I've been researching but i haven't found a solution. I should be getting the 1.5mbps connection but the max i get is like 244 with a 20kbps download speed -_-. With the SpeakEasy test i get a total of 190kbps. I'm using a 2WIRE 2700HG-D modem. Here is my WAN status and if theres anything else you need, please tell me!

Your sync rate is messed up. I would check the line that the modem is on and the filters on other jacks to make sure it not an interior line problem and if still presists, call for a tech.

Well i connected the modem to another phoneline and still it was slow. Maybe its my filter, modem or my phoneline thing that is messed up. I'll call qwest and complain

Do you have linebacker/databacker or some type of maintenance insurance plan with qwest? If not, it COULD cost you quite a bit if they come over and find the problem is on your end.

Next; was it ever working good? Or, has it always been this bad?

Did you do a SELF install, or did qwest install your dsl?

While it is totally possible for it to be a bad modem or the qwest side of this, I see plenty of reasons by looking at your numbers to believe the problem is on your end.

Assuming BEST case scenario, and assuming you know a lot about this; I need to ask. Have you tried connecting the modem DIRECTLY to the NI, WITHOUT ANY inside phone wires; WITHOUT ANY actual phones. WITHOUT any answering machines, satellite receivers, alarms, or ANYTHING ELSE that uses a phone line. In other words, have you tried ONLY the modem and nothing else in the house connected to the NI?

The 2wire is reporting you have a filtering problem. You've either got your modem filtered, or are missing filters somewhere in you house.

I dont think i do

It has been horrible since i got it, i got a total of 900kbs once but that only occurred for about 3 minutes.

I self installed it.

I don't really know anything about technical details and I don't know what a NI is but the modem is directly plugged into the PC.

Question for ewth8tr:
Are you talking about the DSL phone filter things? I have a filter on my homephone and that is all.

I'm receiving a new modem tomorrow so hopefully that'll make my internet faster.

@qwest.net
Well just got my new modem setup and now the uncanceled echo is 2.1db! But my internet is faster.

What new modem did you get and how fast did your speed go up?

Slow Dsl Guy

@qwest.net
The modem i got was the 2701 HG-D and now my total internet speed is 288 when before it was 244. I do have a security system installed in the house but i don't have it activated or anything.

a) even though that sec. system isn't activated -- is it hooked up to any phone jack?
b) trying unplugging alllllll phones from alll jacks and power cycling

c) do you have a gray box out side the house.. you could run extension phone line to it to bypass the house wiring and see if you sync higher...

d) Have you (ever) called support? You may have to bit the bullet. Worst case it's inside wire which with c) would have been checked. It could be $50 or whatever they charge if they determine that - but why continue suffering it could be outside or dslam

You may need something like this.

»wwww.electrogalaxy.com/index.htm···cdslfltr

If the alarm is connected, then it WILL degrade your DSL signal. Doesn't matter if you use the alarm or not.

Here is a different way to wire it,

»www.homephonewiring.com/splt-alarm.html

and this may work fine since you say you don't use the alarm. But this way does impede the line arresting ability of the alarm system if you choose to use a phone connected to the DSL jack with the modem.

a) I highly doubt it but there might be one in the garage.
b) I tried that
C) i do have one and i just checked it out and im perplexed. I don't know how i would insert my phone wire into it because im a neophyte at things like this.
d) i got a new modem from tech support but if i really need help which i do, i'll call and tell them to check my wiring.

Or just call and order a DSL install. This way they will not only check the connection, but make sure all filters are in (Including the alarm) and that the modem is training at what is being paid for and expected. A dsl install will cost you the same as a maintenance tech coming out and troubleshooting your wires and saying it all looks good. A maintenance visit doesn't guarantee the dsl is going to work when he leaves. A dsl install will guarantee it will work or they won't charge you for it. Later.... Mike.....
