Is this intended just for active duty? Will veterans be welcome?
I don't like having the forum private. It won't necessarily degenerate into politics, but I think it will almost surely degenerate into inter-branch bickering whether public or private.
Why not set up your own Yahoo group for it? Chances are they already have one. Check these out:
