Are you running IE7 on Windows XP SP2?
Yes, IE7, XP SP2 is what I have installed but I run Firefox.

Is there something I missed?

Try installing Windows Script 5.7 and see if it resolves the problem:

Installing Windows Script 5.7 should ensure that the scripting components are at the latest version.

You should then not need KB944338.

Something somebody or some thing missed, apparently:

quote:
• Systems with Internet Explorer 7, which is delivered with VBScript.dll version 5.7 and JScript.dll version 5.7, are not affected by this vulnerability.

As auggy See Profile just noted, as well.

How is it that Windows Update let my versions get out dated?

It is possible that the scripting files did not properly install when you installed IE7.

It is also possible that the scripting files may have been over-written with an older version as might occur by the installation of a third party program or manually installing an older version of Windows Script.

There is a good discussion of the problem in the following link:

Anyway, glad you got it fixed.
