yup, went back to embarq because their phone service is expensive here too.

not being really competitive if you ask me.
(especially since they don't support lifeline)

I guess I will have to wait for TIVO to do something like that
I have TIVO its great it beats cox's expensive DVR. Cox is not very competitive I don't think they really care ether.

that's not a phone jack, but a cable modem jack. How expensive is it? Cox digital is cheaper then qwest in our area.

$48.95 plus another $12.61 in taxes grand total $61.56

and that's the unlimited plan I live in a area that every call u make is long distance even if it is across the street that's how the LATA are set up here in Alma Arkansas I don't no how they calc u late there savings. But century tell is cheaper than them.

I wouldn't care about caller ID on tv, you can't trust the info it shows, people can spoof it.

By they, you mean Vonage right???

Our service is absolutely lifeline in it's design and delivery.

The way the caller ID on the TV works uses data messages to the box from the cable interface.

I believe the phone jack was once used for telephone return path - like satellite - as we once had a few small areas that had telco return but with all of our plant now being return activated this is no longer necessary.

What you describe is an interesting idea for a product/feature - I will make sure the prod-dev folks in Atlanta know about the suggestion.

as in POTS.

the bill with caller ID is about $15 less with Embarq then with Cox that's not including the lifeline discount we get.

if you guys offered a 500 minute plan for say $10.00 a month then i MAY reconsider.

Cox is getting better on cable (were getting 10 new channels next month) and their net is the fastest here (hopefully faster..hint hint)

I had that feature when I was in a Time Warner area and miss the convenience of not having to find the phone to see who is calling. I hope they bring this to Tulsa soon.

that would be neat if they did that. just plug a phone cord in to the back of the box and caller id show up. I don't know why they cant make it work for every one regardless of phone company. I would like to be able to take the shows off of the DVR and send them to my pc like TiVo has. It will be interesting to see what cox and TiVo come up with.

So how does the Caller ID display look on a HDTV when you recieve a call? Is a huge overlay across the top of the screen or a small unobtrusive notification in a lower corner or what? Anyone have a screen shot?

Just curious...

I don't know why they don't make it work with any phone company.

Probably so you stick with their own phone service. Get you hooked on a feature so you can't live without it.

I have three different cable boxes (DCT2000, DCT2500, CMH3416) and not a single one has a phone jack (RJ 11) in the back. Im not sure where the phone cord would go in to make it work for other providers.

it's not a phone jack, but a ethernet jack.
