Quite good speeds, I'd say...

Nice speed, too bad its costs $100/month, is capped at 100GB, and is P2P throttled.

Nope! I don't pay that price...$42.95 per/mo. Regular home owner's, yes, pay $101.95 per/mo.

Bell has upgraded 500 buildings in the Toronto area, 22 customer's have subscribed to the 16Mpbs todate.

Condo/Apartment resident's only pay $42.95 because all the equipment is installed in the basement of the building. As far as being capped at 100GB per/mo, that's perfect for me, as I don't play online games, download music/movies; never was into that.

When I was with Rogers HiSpeed Lite, I was paying $34.95 for 1Mpbs. For $7.00 more-a-month with Bell Sympatico 16Mpbs, I receive up to 16Mpbs.

Are you throttled between 4pm and 2am?

I think he means P2P throttling. a http web test wouldn't be throttled.

I guess I don't understand how P2P...sorry. What do I do to determine this?

Yep, those are good speeds. Thing is, if you don't P2P or game or really download anything, the speed is mostly wasted. You'll get your webpages lightning fast though

Exactly. I've just never been into the habit of playing onlines games, P2P, or anything other than surfing/emailing. The speed, though, is fantastic for what I do on the net.

You can test your connection for throttling here:

»broadband.mpi-sws.mpg.de/transpa···est.php?

There are legitimate uses for P2P and just because you don't use it now doesn't mean you won't in the future. I don't play on-line games either and I seldom use P2P, but I am still completely against any form of throttling.

I would suggest running the test later in the evening to ensure Bell's throttling is in effect, it doesn't always start at 4pm.

Thanks! I'll do this. What time would you suggest? I completely agree with you about the throttling, it's not fair play. I don't completely understand this throttling business only because I don't fall into that category.

I suggest anytime after 7pm.

Don't bother trying to test since it's quickly proving to be very flawed.

Many have ran the test while downloading from BT (throttled), and it returns results that they're not being throttled.

That test is flawed simply because of its geographical location. It's in Germany. It cannot supply adequate speeds in just http transfers to compare to what it simulates as bit torrent transfers.

Thanks for this information, guys. I won't bother running the throttle test based on the information you provided

It's been reliable for my connection. It shows not throttled outside of peak hours and throttled when I ran it during peak hours.

Its a shame they can't offer that kind of pricing to regular customers. It really goes to show how much cash they make pricing it at $100. Essentially a 100% markup.

I'd say that's pretteh nice.
Its just that your one of the very, very few.
On my part, best speed I can receive [in this town] is 6 mbps which I get from Teksavvy.
Yeah, they are probably the best provider in this area.

To be honest, I'd rather have 5 mbps than 16 mbps. Its just cheaper to download unlimited than capped around 100 gb. Then again, I'm just one of those "5%, 15%, etc" people who downloaded "accessibly."

To sum it up, 16 mbps is an amazing speed. Its just that my family can't afford it nor receive it.
[Like I said, your one of the few who gets around $42.95 + tax]

Perhaps with all the jibber jabber going on that is exactly what they intend on doing.

Offering a speed tier that no other dsl provider can match, or simply they are lowering the price due to not enough interest.

Either way its interesting that you got that price.
