36dB S/N is actually very good in OKC.
If you simply unplugged the power to the amp for the before and after, based upon the readings you provided the modem is not running off the amp and the levels you posted are not consistent with the conditions. You may have a problem on the main line (transmit may actually be low), you may have a bad modem, you may have something else. The numbers just don't add up for simply unplugging an amp.
The most reliable public speedtest you can run (in my experience) is speedtest.net, to the Dallas server. This will give you a pretty good idea of whether your issues lie within the Cox OKC sphere of influence. If you put things back to their original configuration and that test shows you're not getting the speeds you should be getting, you need to get a tech out to figure out what's up. And when he's there, ask him why you need the amp. |
