NYR11 : Thanks for the help answering my questions. I saw the double Ati card but it is beyond my budget right now. What I need and can afford is a good midrange card. I decided on the EVGA 9600 GT 500MB card. Got it on Newegg last night for $149 with free ship plus a $10 rebate. Tough to beat that deal. Figure I will be able to overclock it a bit and together with the Q6600 Quad core and 4 gigs of RAM I will be using should get some decent frame rates. You think?
--
"It's a nice day if you wake up in Disneyland"

Grief : :)pcie 2.0 cards are backward compatible. Not sure about how a 16x slot and 4x slot will affect crossfire but like Stormy says you may want to check out one of the X2 cards which are like 2 video cards in one unit.
I recently upgraded from a geforce 8800 ultra oc to a geforce 9800 GX2( I have 1 pcie 16X slot ),awesome results for UT3 at 1920x1200 :D checking the device manager shows 2 9800 gpu's :hmm:

StorminNorm : If you wanting to stay ATI with CrossFire and only have one 16x slot, your best bet may be the HD3870x2. It is basically two cards in one. The biggest issue I read about is this card takes up a full length slot and you need a good power supply, same if running two cards. Tom's Hardware had some good info on it.
--
Lets Kick it...

Video Card Question: Which is Better?

NYR11 : Need a new card for my new mobo, a Gigabyte EP35 DS3P. This board has two pci express 16 slots. The second slot however, is 4X not 16X like the top slot.It is capable of running two ATI cards in crossfire. Would I be better off with a Nvidia 9600GT or 8800gt or doing Crossfire with two ATi 3870 cards. Which card will give me better frame rates in some of the latest games? All these cards right now are pretty close in price. One more. I see that most cards are pci express 2.0. I don't think my new board is. Is 2.0 backward compatible? thanks for the help.
--
"It's a nice day if you wake up in Disneyland"
