| BEFCMU10 v.4 capable of DOCSIS 2.0?
I'm getting Comcast HSI for the first time (Verizon DSL is too expensive in my town). I decided to buy a modem on eBay instead of renting from Comcast or buying one new for $50+. I found a BEFCMU10 v.4 for $20 on eBay - is this DOCSIS 2.0-capable? I've Googled a bit and haven't been able to find any confirmation that it is or isn't.

according to Linksys the BEFCMU10 v.4 is DOCSIS 2.0

However Comcast's only DOCSIS 2 deployments are on aquired (bought/traded)systems.
according to a poll here a BBR about 15% of users have a BEFCMU10 |

It should work fine. Just stay away from the BEFCMU10 v.2. 
They usually don't run docsis 2.0 in most areas anyway so thats not an issue. Hope it works out!

Beware of eBay modems if not new. If it's registered in Comcast's system already, you may end up being SOL.

Both the BEFCMU v3/v4 are hardware capable of D2, but often the firmware is not up to date and doesn't "turn on" D2. |

Really? Comcast doesn't provide a way to re-register a modem with a new user or account?
I went ahead and got it - it was a pretty good deal ($17 shipped). Guess I'll just have to wait and see what happens... |

48-72 hours if the modem is hiding in the system somewhere and has to be purged by the national data center, however if the modem is "clean" its a few minutes and you are online.
