Another answer would put them in a neutral spot, on the side of a house, but not in front. They can, but it costs money, so they'll see if they can get away with the current, less expensive design. You don't think that the cell companies deployed those disguised cell sites out of the goodness of their hearts, do you? They did it because people complained. Same with the telcos and cablecos. If they can drop a lawn fridge in your yard, they will. If residents complain enough, they'll make them less obtrusive. |

The VRADs are huge, good luck hiding those under a rock.
P.S. I've got an electric transformer box (3'x3'x2'), two phone splice pedestals (on opposite corners of my front yard), a cable tap pedestal, and an underground FIOS vault on my property. |

1 edit | reply to MacLeech We have that exact #1 "Rock Ped". A bunch of them "sprouted up" when we went to two-way service back in 2000. People were screaming about the appearance of those, too. They're not nearly as natural looking in person, but it's at least an effort.
Of course, I think a VRAD is more analogous to a cable node. Here our nodes are in bigger cabinets. Not as big as the VRAD, but much bigger than that rock.
The problem with the AT&T VRADs is their size and color seems to make them tagging magnets. We're not even in a bad area of town, but our VRAD has been painted over a few times now and they're a real eyesore with a bunch of uneven paint coats.

en102Canadian, eh? join:2001-01-26 Valencia, CA | There's a bunch of those 'rocks' around here. 2 houses down from me is one of them. They blend in much better, and are a little more similar to AT&T's near the curb junction box (many of them around here as well). VRAD's are roughly 1-2 per HOA in my area... one at each end, on the main drag, not in the nieghborhood itself. -- Canada = Hollywood North |
