The more the merrier

It is not the cabinet that counts it is the number of cabinets and their location. In the old days most distribution equipment was located in the customers back yard. Recently developers and utility companies began installing the utilities and related cabinets in the front yard. The reason for the change was to allow access to the equipment directly from the public right of way. In my area we have the potential for or the following utility cabinets in our front yards:

Power Company Transformers

Power Company Primary Disconnect Switches

CATV Subscriber Terminal Boxes

CATV Node Cabinets

Telephone Company Drop boxes

Telephone Company Distribution Terminal Cabinets

Gas Company Equipment

Future Cabinets for new services installed by any of the above.

It is time for local government to set specifications and limits for the number of and size of cabinets installed on a homeowners utility easement.
