You get TivoToGo, tivo's can stream SD and HD between them, and many other features. We are getting our second Tivo.

Also sometimes they give out lifetime subscription specials. So that can make up for the fee.

I placed a tv in the basement that is an HDTV but I as well did not want to pay for another box. so I split the upstairs box with my tv down stairs. My problem is that I had a 25 ft Coax line already so I just used that...but you would be better off running a HDMI or Component down to that tv for a better picture and true HD. Anyway HDMI cable 25 is around 27.00 and 50ft is around 35 I think. This works great and allows you to control the box upstairs while down stairs. And I have had zero issues with it. Hope this helps. Refinishing our basement and wanting to get a 46" TV. However, I am not spending another $10 for a 3rd HD box ($33 total)!!! So I have a choice, use the DCT-700 and a splitter to the upstairs TV so I can get local HD channels through the QAM tuner and then the DCT 700 for the rest of the stations. This will free up the HD box upstairs and I can use it in the basement.

Or I will get a TV with a cable card slot....However, only the Mits and Pioneer makes flat panels with CC slots....bummer.
