Re: Video Card Question: Which is Better?

Thanks for the help answering my questions. I saw the double Ati card but it is beyond my budget right now. What I need and can afford is a good midrange card. I decided on the EVGA 9600 GT 500MB card. Got it on Newegg last night for $149 with free ship plus a $10 rebate. Tough to beat that deal. Figure I will be able to overclock it a bit and together with the Q6600 Quad core and 4 gigs of RAM I will be using should get some decent frame rates. You think?

Should have went with the 8800GT I think.

The price is nearly the same but performance is a huge difference.

wrong. they are almost identical in performance with the obvious edge to the 8800. the difference between the 9600gt and 8800GTS 512, however, is much more pronounced. most times the 8800GT and 9600GT will give you the same optimal settings (ie same quality at the same resolution) but there are times when you'd get the next higher resolution or slightly more FSAA from the 8800GT.

the 9600GT should play any modern game besides crysis at high or ultra high with that setup at 1680x1050 res.

bottom line is the 8800GT is a better card for 15-20 bux more but not worth much more than that.

I'm sure the extra shaders in the 8800GT makes a difference.

Perhaps not as huge but imo, it's the card to get.
