elwoodblues : Hockey is typically shot in HD, then down converted.

You'll find that of most major TV shows, they'll shoot in 720p (CBC does 1080i), and down convert for SD channels. Compressing something of excellent quality will give you better results then trying to up-convert something that was crappy in the first place

juggie : yeah, its possible to just zoom and crop and not stretch at all, but you loose alot of the picture (top and bottom) and that should be noticable. I just thought it was possible that since sportsnet produces a-channel hockey anyways, and since they are doing HD this year, it might be possible for the local bars to buy some sort of special feed of a-channel in HD just for the games.

(btw, if anyone knows dean brown, tell him hes the worst hockey commentator i've ever heard, so biased he even bugs sens fans)

When I watch a channel in SD on my HDTV, it looks like crap and the 4:3 is inside the 16:9. A Channel/Newsnet looked pretty damn good and filled the 42 inch HDTV in The Hilton Hotel. Is this some special hotel feed? LOL

When you guys watch SD on your HDTV, have you configured your tv's to somehow auto-fill the screen but not by stretching/zoom?
