| Limitations to AT&T Basic DSL?
Greetings ~ Apologies if my post isn't up to snuff or if this ends up not being the proper forum.
Signed up for basic (19.99/mo) DSL service with AT&T in early March of this year. Modem is Motorola MSTATEA with rev. 7.7.3r5.
Are there any known limitations to the basic DSL that don't apply to the other service plans available?
Wireless router is DLINK DI-624 -- however the problem I describe below seems unrelated to router.
Either through router (Ports fwd'd to manual IP or using UPnP) or when XBOX360 is connected directly to the MSTATEA, the game console reports a "Strict" NAT level, as opposed to "Open" or "Moderate." This renders it nearly impossible to matchmake over XBOX Live.
I had CHARTER cable modem at same location, same setup -- worked fine.
Wanted to consider any solutions before a) I call AT&T and have a useless conversation. b) Pay for a higher service plan that may not fix the problem.
Best regards,

| That is a Motorola 2210 modem.
I think from what you have said the modem is misconfigured with respect to the router. If you have the modem making the PPPoE connection (you have entered your ID/PW into the modem), then the router needs to be set to "Obtain an IP automatically" from the modem AND the router must not use the 192.168.1.xxx subnet for its LAN.
One limitation of the Basic speed plan is that AT&T WiFi is not a free benefit. |

| reply to evanchan What subnet is being used on the router's LAN?
Is the modem passing the public IP to the router or the private IP, 192.168.1.64?
The only time the modem would block inbound packets is when there is some other IP at the router's WAN port. This modem is always in DMZ mode. |

DSL modem is assigning the router 192.168.1.64 |

Have you tested if those ports are open at »www.grc.com ? |

Perhaps this exchange will help other unhappy gamers get their GTAIV on. |

| reply to evanchan You could have also configured the 2210 to do the PPPoE and assign the router the public ip address.
The 2210 defaults to assigning a private ip address when it does the PPPoE and also drops all unsolicited traffic when it is assigning a private ip address. |
