Neoprimal : I'm sorry for your misfortune, but you don't know how happy this post makes me.

I moved to Pembroke Pines in December, to Archstone Pembroke Landings to be exact. The only ISP here is Dialup from whoever or ATT DSL. I've been having horrible connection issues since december where my line drops, etc. etc. I had the netopia changed several times but that resolved nothing. Eventually I got a Zoom X6 which didn't resolve it either, but it worked well with it anyhow. Anytime it rained my connection went bad. I had tech support on the line as well as techs to my house and they couldn't find a problem because my sync rate and speed were always fine by the time they got here.

Eventually I'd say through March or so the disconnects stopped but as of last week, by between 4:30pm or so through the night, the connection got horrible. I mean below 1Mb download sometimes as bad as 30kb, somtimes upload stayed the same, sometimes it went to hell as well. But like clockwork the connection goes bad.

On Thursday a tech came out, did some crap but that same evening, went bad. The next day I had another tech come out and this one caught it, as he was realllly cool and wait until I was last on his list, so he came here at maybe 15 to 5pm or so. He caught it and said he'd never seen anything like it. Everything looked good - sync was fine and on the other end the net engineers were seeing good numbers. So he arranged for a 'real' att tech to come out the next day (Sat).

Well she came and of course, she came in the morning so the line was fine. It was below 6Mb, but that's not horrible. Anyway she tested and tested and everything worked ok, except she could see where the line wasn't consistent whereas it should be. It would be at 4.2 then at 3.1 then down to 2.0 but it never went below 1Mb. She said she changed a cantina or whatever that card is called but that didn't help the numbers. The packet test went fine so she basically said she couldn't do anything else and that I should call her today as she would talk to other techs and see if they had anyone else in the area having problems.

Well, turns out noone else has problems (riiight). And of course, as of 5:20 or so today my connection just shot to hell. I'm getting speeds of between under 1Mb and 3.2Mb down and between 200 and 400Kb up and I'm getting whopping packet loss, 4-5%. This means my VoIP is useless and I can't play World of Warcraft.

Sorry for this bible of a post but honestly I don't know what else to do. I'm not an expert with DSL or Cable internet, but I know a thing or two....

I have:

Tested the modem on several PCs (to make sure my PC isn't some kind of malware Zombie - for the record I run Vista 64 with Nod32 on there as well as Hardy Heron.)

Tested several modems, right now I have the Zoom X6 and a Moto/Netopia 2210. They both report the same numbers.

When my connection goes, I make sure to remove all wireless from my system. My wireless IS secure (WPA+Mac Address Whitelist).

I would drop ATT in a second but I can't find another broadand provider.

Does anyone have any advice? Apart from 'Calm down'? Today I lost it with the tech support, I know it's not his fault but the generic questions made me really lose it, especially providing the fact that he's seen like 5 people come here, 2 of which should have reported that something is up.

Oy Veh... »/linequality/nil/2381137
