"$5 off your phone bill" DEAL

SuperG : How I saved $5 on my AT&T DSL. You can,too!

I am currently subscribing to AT&T DSL Express at the old rate of $14.99/mo. I called AT&T DSL customer service at 1-877-722-3755 to see when my current contract was going to expire. I was notified that my current promo rate of $14.99 was going to expire on May 12, 2008. At that time, my rate for DSL Express Basic would increase to $19.99/ month. The customer service rep informed me that AT&T had a price increase for all DSL services in Feb. 2008. I asked the customer service rep if there were any current promotions that I could take advantage of. She explained to me that the new rate would be $19.99 and that there was not any DSL promotions at this time.

I hesitated for a little while, and then the customer service rep says, "I can take $5 off your phone bill". No catch. $5 off the phone portion of your bill, each month, for the next 12 months. Essentially, keeping me at the $14.99 rate, although my actual phone bill will not indicate a reduction in DSL service, just a mysterious $5 credit on the phone line charges side of the bill. The customer service rep explained to me that the DSL service will now be month-to-month, no termination fee for cancellation. My phone service is just a basic dial tone with no extras.

I think this is non-marketed promotion tool that customer service reps can use to retain customers that threaten to cancel their service. It worked. I am staying with AT&T. Can't beat the price!
