Need help with dd-wrt linksys and guide

hi, I have connected a linksys WRT54G router running dd-wrt to my Actiontec MI424WR. I followed instructions and have it all working except for the VOD and guide for all my STBs. I have a cable going from the first LAN plug on my AT to the WAN on my linksys. and from my third LAN on my linksys to the WAN on the AT. On the AT now, both the WAN Coax and the WAN ethernet lights are green and the internet light is orange.
However, my STBs are unable to get the guide and VOD. Please help. Thanks.

Q. Which set of instructions did you follow? There are several that are all slightly different:
»
FIOS VoD/Video success with actiontec in bridge mode

»Make your actiontec a bridge with VOD working with REV D
»How-to: make ActionTec MI424-WR a network bridge

Q. Is the Linksys correctly pulling a WAN IP address?

The internet light should be orange. The Actiontec is no longer your primary router.

Q. Did you follow the instructions to set up a network bridge on the Actiontec between the Broadband Ethernet and coax?

Q. Did you reboot the STB's? You have to unplug the AC power to do this.

I am pretty sure I used this one
»Make your actiontec a bridge with VOD working with REV D

The AT internet light is orange so its no longer my primary router.

I am not sure if I bridged ethernet and coax. Is there a way to check? tutorial to do it?

Yes i did reboot the STBs. They don't work

Thanks

At this point you need to log back into the Actiontec. The easiest way to do this is to connect a PC directly to an Actiontec LAN port. If you have disabled DHCP server in the Actiontec (step 11), you will need to configure your PC with a static IP address on the same subnet as the Actiontec (it may be 192.168.1.x or it may have changed).

Once logged into the the Actiontec, you can go to the MY NETWORK->NETWORK CONNECTIONS and see if you created the bridge between the ethernet WAN and the coax. If not, resume from step 14:

14) Click Add at the bottom right.

15) Select Network Bridge -> Next -> Select Add a New bridge -> Next -> Check Broadband Ethernet and Coax. Uncheck Wireless. -> Click Next.

16) Check Edit the Newly Created Connection and click on Finish

I did as you said. There was already a bridge set up. I deleted it and re-created one just in case. My STBs still do not work however. I did notice that next to COAX, it said connected but next to ethernet it said disabled.

What should i do now?
Thanks for you help.

Q. Did you go through steps 20-24 to enable the Broadband ethernet interface?

Q. Is the patch cable from the Linksys LAN port connected to the Actiontec WAN port?

Q. Please confirm the WAN IP address the Linksys is obtaining.

Q. What DHCP settings do you have on the Broadband ethernet interface?

Q. What DHCP settings do you have on the Home/Office network?

Once you enable the Broadband ethernet interface and have the patch cable to the Linksys in place, you should be able to change your PC setting from static to dynamic and pull an IP address from the Linksys while connected to the Actiontec. Confirm this before moving on to the STBs.

I've just installed in the last two weeks exactly the setup you describe.

My biggest problem was the wrt would not pick up a dhcp address from vz, I set it as a static with the settings (inc spoof mac) of the at, shortly after there was a (I'm assuming) a dhcp refresh of some sort which knocked me out - set the wrt to dhcp, picked up a new addr and all's been well for the last week.

no, the first time i did not enable ethernet. I did now but it still doesn't work after resetting the STBs.

yes, a cable is connected from a linksys lan port to the AT WAN port.

How do confirm the WAN IP address Linksys is obtaining (sorry I'm new to this thing)

HOw do i check the DHCP settings?

Thanks

I too have tried this set up and couldnt get an IP from Verizon. Do you need a REV D router?

This should work on any hardware revision of the Actiontec. All hardware revisions run the same firmware, which currently is 4.0.16.1.56.0.10.7.

If you're not getting an IP address from VZ, then one of two things is happening.
1) The bridge is not set up properly.
2) You have not successfully released the DHCP of the Actiontec.

Users attempting to release the DHCP address seems to fall into one of three categories. See this post:

This should be on the either the main status page, or the WAN status page of the Linksys. If you need more help with the Linksys, try the Linksys forum.

How do i check the DHCP settings?
There are two sets of DHCP settings in the Actiontec (WAN & LAN).
•Login to the Actiontec
Q. In the My Router column, what does it show for CONNECTION STATUS, CONNECTION TYPE, and IP ADDRESS?

To check the DHCP WAN settings:
•Click on MY NETWORK at the top
•Select NETWORK CONNECTIONS on the left
•Select BROADBAND CONNECTION (coax)
•Click on SETTINGS at the bottom
Q. What does it show for INTERNET PROTOCOL?

To check the DHCP LAN settings:
•Click on MY NETWORK at the top
•Select NETWORK CONNECTIONS on the left
•Select NETWORK (Home/Office)
•Click on SETTINGS at the bottom
Q. What does it show for INTERNET PROTOCOL?

sam3737

@verizon.net

In the My Router section, it says Caution Check your broadband connection. Next the Coax Status and Etherent Status, it says Disconnected.

I can't find the internet protocol in the settings of the broadband connection.

For DHCP LAN, it says use the following IP address. Under that, for IP address, it says 192.168.1.1 and subnet mask is 255.255.255.0.

I also noticed that under the Network Connections, there were WAN PPPOE and WAN PPPOE 2. Both of these were disabled. Should they be enabled? Also, my broadband connection (etherent) under the bridge got disabled again. I had the re-enable it. Thanks

this too could be an issue though i'm not certain i'm following it correctly. The set top boxes are dhcp only so if you are trying to set communication between the stbs and the router you cannot set that router for a static network instead of DHCP.

The OP is trying to bridge his Linksys behind the Actiontec using the following set of instructions:
»Make your actiontec a bridge with VOD working with REV D
Have your read that thread?

Since the OP is trying to use the Actiontec as a bridge, WAN side DHCP needs to be disabled in the Actiontec. The Linksys will be requesting the WAN DHCP from VZ. You can not have both routers requesting WAN DHCP addresses from VZ.

Similarly, on the LAN side, the Linksys will be providing DHCP addresses to devices on the LAN, including the STB's.
Again, you can not have both routers providing DHCP addresses. The Linksys will be providing DHCP addresses to devices on the LAN (including STBs).

This is to be expected, since the Actiontec should no longer be requesting an IP address from VZ.

To check the DHCP WAN settings:
•Click on MY NETWORK at the top
•Select NETWORK CONNECTIONS on the left
•Select BROADBAND CONNECTION (coax)
•Click on SETTINGS at the bottom
INTERNET PROTOCOL is the 17th item down.
This should be set to NO IP ADDRESS

Ignore the WAN PPOE and WAN PPOE2 interfaces. You are connected via DHCP, not PPOE.

Also on the Actiontec NETWORK (Home/Office) page, what is the setting for IP ADDRESS DISTRIBUTION?

Still need an answer to whether the Linksys is obtaining a WAN DHCP address from VZ. It should be 71.x.x.x, 72.x.x.x or 96.x.x.x. If you are getting one of these IP addresses on the Linksys, can you connect to the internet from the Linksys?

Also, what is the LAN IP address of the Linksys?

Don't worry about the the 2nd bridge until we get internet connectivity working on the Linksys.
