VDN Cable

I've been with VDN (division of Bell) since 2002 using their cable internet service (which they no longer provide)... The connection has been terrific since 02 until this weekend, my download speed decreased and im barely getting more than 0.5 MBPS (compared to 6-7 MBPS) like i used to, my upload speed has not changed...

So i called their tech support and asked them for help, most of their the employees are new and have no idea that their company used to offer a cable service, i was asked to wait a couple of days until they find someone who has an idea on how to work this out.

anyway, are there any online tests for cable to see where the problem is? i tried pinging a webstie from cmd, the time delay is around 45MS (used to be 10-15) and TIL is @ 243 (no idea what that means, but i know thats higher than the usual)

any help is greatly appreciated!

thanks

money talks

@videotron.ca

I haven't a clue.

However, one thing I am pretty sure of is that if you call billing and tell them you aren't paying till its fixed (also tell them your story of horrid suppport that you do pay for), they will either credit you the month and/or find you someone to fix you up.

If so I would try posting in the sympatico direct forumn, and those guys will try to help

so their tech support calls me today and tells me that he and his supervisor have discussed the situation and concluded that it's a problem with my computer, i don't have enough HD space... wow geniuses! i told him that i tried it on 2 other laptops and it was the same problem...

I've been running on the same desktop for years with over 50 GBs free. He said that i was the only one who was having a problem from the building they supply, when i asked him why my upload speed was fine, he did not comment. Apparently, they don't send technicians if its not a building problem, so when i asked him what to do, he suggested formatting my pc (really stupid) and then i asked him, if it doesnt work? he did not comment... then i told them that "if after this it doesnt work, do i cancel?" he replied that it was my choice... wow i wonder how they get paid..

bottom line i need a new isp, cable over DSL, unthrottled, and anywhere >60GB/ month for 35-45$, i know ebox provides a similar service, but the 80-100$ that they charge is a big turn off...

any suggestions?

Well I would say either Ebox or Colba.net's ADSL2+ if you are close to their central you can get good speeds, up to 24 mbit/s, and they are unlimited. Right now they are great for me. But, I have them only for 7 days.
