Note that the lack of a closing square bracket on the opening "bquote" tag causes the text to be output as a literal.<br><br>[attachment=1]<br><br>Now here's another: a pair of square brackets whose content is not a valid symbol for square brackets. The browser renders the HTML for the forums here, as for any web page.<br><br>If you put in<blockquote>&lt;b&gt;Object.&lt;/b&gt;</blockquote>it renders it as<blockquote><b>Object.</b></blockquote><br><br>If you leave out a "&lt;" or "&gt;", you have a syntax problem, but the browser has no parser to tell you that there's a problem, and that's how HTML works.  There's no syntax checker.  And regardless how you enter the HTML, a "&lt;" and "&gt;" are control characters - their only function is to enclose HTML control language.<br><br>If you want to show a "&lt;", you enter "&amp;lt;", and if you want to show a "&gt;", you enter "&amp;gt;".<br><br>Every BBS has control characters. If the forum software allows plain old HTML, it's probably just an HTML exit.  The HTML isn't checked, or rendered by the forum software, it's rendered by your browser when it's displayed.<br><br>As I pointed out to Joako, it's not that the forum software is preventing him from doing anything.  The forum software lets him enter anything he wants to - just like most HTML based web page editors.  The browser is the problem, when the post is rendered.  If you have a "&lt;" in the code without a closing "&gt;", almost any thing can happen. <description><![CDATA[<A HREF="/useremail/u/198350"><b>joako</b></A> : It's annoying if you use a less than sign, e.g.<br><br>[LESS THAN] 5 <br><br>It just cuts off the rest of your post without any warning. I know its to prevent HTML tags but why not figure out another way to do it where you are blocking actual tags??? or replace the sign with the &lessthan; or whatever the hell the HTML code is?<br><br>This has happened to me > 5 times already I post a thread and come back later and it makes no sense because half is missing!<br><small>--<br>09:F9:11:02:9D:74:E3:5B:D8:41:56:C5:63:56:88:C0</small>]]></description>
