The only reason for the Netgear is to get wireless? Let the Netopia be the router it wants to be and demote the Netgear to the Wireless Access Point you wanted from the get-go.
Step one: Sign on the Netgear and disable the DHCP server.
Step two: Then address the Netgear in the Netopia's subnet but at some other address. If the Netopia is 192.168.0.254, set the Netgear to 192.168.0.253.
Step three: Connect the Netopia and the Netgear via LAN ports, (often labeled 1 - 4) and leave the Netgear's WAN (or internet) port empty forever.
Now the Netopia is doing all the routing, and the Netgear is providing Wireless access. |
