| Cable modem dying?
for the last week, my (Ambit) cable modem issued to me by Suddenlink has been disconnecting. Basically the 'ready' light goes to blinking and I lose connection for 1-2 minutes. I do NOT have to reset, or unplug anything. The modem simply picks up connection again by itself, and the ready light become solid.
This happens at totally random intervals. It's been going on for a week. I called Suddenlink tech support to ask about this. The tech simply told me "this is what cable modems do when they are about to die." I just wanted to verify if anyone knows or had a similar problem to this before I go trade this modem in.
Thanks |

@suddenlink.net | Hmm. I'm not sure about the sync light. I'm going to have to check it when it cuts off again. What if it remains solid? |

@suddenlink.net | Another thing I'm noticing happen is, all of the ports I have forwarded suddenly stopped working. So it was my cable modem D/Cing at random times. Now, today my my forwarded ports are not responding to my programs.
very odd. |

@suddenlink.net | unplugging everything, and plugging back in fixed the port issue. I still get the modem D/Cs and the sync light remains solid during this time. It takes about 1-2mins for my modem to reconnect itself. |

|
  Phammond
@suddenlink.net | Downstream is -3.8 dbmv Upstream is 45 dmv.
I am using a new modem right now, and it did not solve my random D/Cs. It happened 3 hours after I got it.
really have no idea, now... |

| reply to Araiden Yeap. Using the power cord that came with the modem. Yeah, my router is a Netgear WGT624v4. Ports are okay right now, now idea why it was messing up that day.
I disconnected once since I had my new modem. I hard reset my router to see if that is what's causing the problems. I'll have to see how long it lasts till I D/C.
Thanks for the help so far.
Techs RARELY seem to help, unfortunately. |

@suddenlink.net | No dice. I tried everything I could possibly try on my end. Still get the random D/Cs. |

I just lose connection, and the modem lights go as if the modem is resetting itself. Within 2 mins I'm back online. |

| reply to Phammond I kinda am having the same problems here (the Ready light is solid, then it blinks slowly for 1-2 minutes, the blinks quickly for 20 seconds, then solid again), but it doesn't happen as much at night, happens a lot during the day.
Phammond, where are you located? |

What kind of signal levels do you have at your modem? And how many outlets do you have? |

join:2006-05-17 Kingwood, TX | Currently its:
Downstream Receive Power Level : 0.5 dBmV
Upstream transmit Power Level : 51.0 dBmV
Last night, it was -2 down and 32 up |

join:2008-04-12 | The 51 looks ok, but the 32 up is not good. generally want to be above 35 on your upstream. |

| More significant than the specific upstream power level is the fact that it was 51 dBmv at one point, and 32 dBmv at another time. If it is varying that much, something is very wrong (bad splitter, defective cable, etc.). Hard to say just what the problem is from a distance. Probably best to get a tech out there. |
