Re: Cable modem dying?

Hmm. I'm not sure about the sync light. I'm going to have to check it when it cuts off again. What if it remains solid?

Another thing I'm noticing happen is, all of the ports I have forwarded suddenly stopped working. So it was my cable modem D/Cing at random times. Now, today my my forwarded ports are not responding to my programs.

very odd.

unplugging everything, and plugging back in fixed the port issue. I still get the modem D/Cs and the sync light remains solid during this time. It takes about 1-2mins for my modem to reconnect itself.

log into 192.168.100.1 on your web browser. look at your downstream and upstream levels. downstream should be better than -7 upstream should be 38 - 52 ( roughly )

Downstream is -3.8 dbmv Upstream is 45 dmv.

I am using a new modem right now, and it did not solve my random D/Cs. It happened 3 hours after I got it.

really have no idea, now...

Are you using the power cord that came with the new modem? i know it sounds silly but that can actually cause problems. When you were talking about port forwarding I assume you were talking about your router?

If the problems continue it sounds like it might be time to have a tech come out to your house.

Yeap. Using the power cord that came with the modem. Yeah, my router is a Netgear WGT624v4. Ports are okay right now, now idea why it was messing up that day.

I disconnected once since I had my new modem. I hard reset my router to see if that is what's causing the problems. I'll have to see how long it lasts till I D/C.

Thanks for the help so far.

Techs RARELY seem to help, unfortunately.

Let me know how things work out for you. Hopefully you won't have anymore issues.

No dice. I tried everything I could possibly try on my end. Still get the random D/Cs.

I just lose connection, and the modem lights go as if the modem is resetting itself. Within 2 mins I'm back online.

Their might be a problem with the lines at your house, or it could even be a plant issue. To know for sure I think some troubleshooting would need to be done on the lines. I don't believe I have asked, how many outlets do you have?
