Re: Old pics of the area San Clemente Pier, 1960. That's the year my Dad and/or Grandfather started taking me down to the end of the pier to fish. The charter boats used to tie up there and load up for their fishing trips. They were named the Sum Fun and the Reel Fun. I'll never forget how good their diesel smoke mixed with the fishy smell of seawater used to smell. There was an old blind man there every weekend who could tell what fish you caught by feeling it with his hands.
See that ridge in the background? Surprise, surprise... it doesn't look like that anymore. Instead of Mouse Barley, Wild Oats, White Sage and Wooley Blue Curls, it now sprouts houses, asphalt and exotic vegetation.
